EU votes to abolish English football team

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

The European Federation yesterday voted to abolish the English football team and replace it with a British football team.

MEPs were asked to vote on 180 proposals in less than 90 minutes, once of which was for the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish football teams to be replaced by a British football team.  UKIP MEPs voted against the proposals but it was – unsurprisingly – voted through by MEPs from other countries who have been petitioning UEFA and FIFA for years to abolish our national teams.

There was also a vote to enforce the flying of the EU rag and playing of the EU anthem at European football finals.  I haven’t found out if this one got through yet.

I’m surprised that the EU has the power to do this, if indeed it has. And if it has, what about rugby, cricket, and everything else? Why stop at football?
What has the Department of Media, Culture & Sport done, or what will it do, to prevent the implementation of this dictatorial and unacceptable policy? Let’s hear it from Mrs Jowell and other (alleged) football fans in the Labour Government.

You’re not the only one to question this. I had an email yesterday morning from an MEP who was present at the vote (he voted against). He’s been in touch with the press but “they don’t believe it, they think it’s an April Fools joke”. I’ve got a couple of documents relevant to it but haven’t had time to trawl through the eurobabble yet although one thing did jump out at me – in the bit where it refers to relevant treaties it says that the Treaty to Establish a Constitution for Europe is taken into account.

OK, here’s what I’ve found myself (waiting for more info from elsewhere on this).

The following amendment was voted down:

whereas nothing in this resolution should be interpreted as implying that the territorial jurisdiction of a national football association operating within the EU should correspond with the territorial jurisdiction of the Member State within which they are based or that a Member State should be obliged to have a single national football association covering all their territory,

As it seems to be the EU’s brainchild perhaps England should have nine football teams to correspond with our latest identity as ‘The Regions’

This is the best thing that could possibly happen – complete revolution and English home rule within a month.

The best football shirt website with many major club and national teams.
