Cub Scouts

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Number one got himself invested as a Cub Scout tonight …

Isn’t traditional to shake hands with your right hand???

It is but the Scouts do it with their left hand. Apparently, when Baden-Powell was in Africa he was told by an African tribal leader to shake with the left hand. It comes down to a story about two African tribal leaders who were at war. One wanted to make peace so he greeted the other on the border of their lands and offered his left hand to shake. His left hand would normally have been holding a shield so not carrying a shield when greeting his enemy was both a sign of trust and bravery.

When I was a cub (40+ years ago) we wore cotton jumpers, not sweatshirts, and caps, and we were expected to do things for our bob on ‘bob-a-job’ day.

    Our youth need toughening up.
