Defattyfying

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Observant readers may have noticed a new graph under the title “Defattyfying” in the sidebar.

I went for a follow-up appointment with my consultant after my knee operation a few weeks ago.  The prognosis could have been worse.  True, it could have been worse as well but my glass is always half full!

Basically, doctors grade cartilage on a scale of 1 to 4.  Grade 1 is nice and smooth, 2 is a bit rough, 3 has bits missing and 4 is missing.  My right knee is a mixture of 2 and 3 and my left knee is a mixture of 3 and 4.  So … my options?  Option 1 – do nothing and they’ll get progressively worse until they give up the ghost in about 10 years time.  Option 2 is to lose 4 or 5 stone and have braces fitted to my knees.  Option 3 is an osteopathy – break my legs and put metalwork in there.  Option 2 it is then!

Anyway, getting to the point – I’ve set myself a target of losing 4 stone in the next 12 months and the graph will chart my progress.

With the knees buggered you’ll not be able to use my favourite weight loss system: a bicycle (age has meant that that other vastly more enjoyable exercise cannot be done for enough hours a day to make much difference).
So swimming it will have to be?

I used to like cycling but the grating and grinding of my joints isn’t nice. I’m joining the gym that Mrs Sane uses – I get to use the pool, sauna, steam room and gym any time for £28 a month with the discount I get for working for the company that accounts for half of the hotel’s revenue! Mrs Sane pays £22 a month for off-peak at normal rates.

As for the other, more enjoyable exercise, I’d rather do that than go to the gym. 😉

Good luck, i’m about to start a de-larding process too, i stopped smoking and have piled it on :O

I think swimming is the best all rounder, no jarring impacts, good for the all over but most subtlry, since most pools are cool, that draws off the energy too.

Get in there, you lardy pie eater! Heh.

Look at it this way – we’ll both walk for as long as we can, then when we can’t, I’ll race your aged backside in a chair…how does that grab you?

I daresay my legs are time limited to a degree as well, as you know. Plan ahead, I say, and roll with it.

    Good luck..;)

I remember our shopping trips on the electric scooters. Razzing round Shrewsbury, you getting stuck on the cobbles on Fish Street. Happy days.

How I wish we could go back there sometimes..everything is too depressing for me these days! How do you still bother to get up in the mornings?

Remember the old lady that freed me? 😉

How do I still get up in the morning? I’ve got plenty to get up for, as have you. Think positive old bean – glass half full and all that.

I do try, old chap..but it’s getting harder and harder. Half full or half empty, I could do with a topup regardless, I think.
