UKIP gets its first MP

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Dr Bob Spink MP, who resigned from the Conswervatives last month after his local Conswervative Association tried to deselect him, has joined UKIP.

conswervatives.pngUKIP now has one MP, nine MEPs, two Lords and about 30 councillors.

It might not seem like much but from little acorns grow mighty oaks.

    So…..

    …the tory de-selection process worked?

    It is a start 😀

Bad news for Camoron, then. Who knows, more might be tempted to join Spink…

No news at all: At the next general election the monkeys who will vote for a monkey with a blue rosette will consign Dr Bob Spink to oblivion.

Just popped over on this special day to show a little solidarity with my countrymen.

The Conservatives could destroy UKIP if they came out against the EU.

Yes, they could. Unfortunately David Camoron is a eurofederalist so it isn’t going to happen. “In Europe but not ruled by Europe”? Load of bollocks, you’re either in European and run by Europe or you’re out, being run from Brussels is not optional.

It would require quite an effort by rank and file Tories and eurosceptic MPs to get the leadership to take an anti-EU position – and what better way to make them take notice than by threatening to defect to UKIP?

I’ll admit the strategy has its limitations – namely that voter preferences might not switch with MPs and councillors, but still… It has a rhetorical use, doesn’t it?

Is Spink the kind of person a party can be proud of?

  9. wonkotsane (1133 comments) says:

Time will tell Allie. I don’t recall him stealing taxpayers money unlike quite a large number or Conswervative and Liebour MPs. I don’t think he’s sold any peerages or started any illegal wars recently either which is an added bonus.

It depends how you view ’employing’ his daughter, his ex-wife and the daughter of his former lover. Still, Farage has described him as ‘deeply principled’, which may raise an eyebrow.

One question, though: if Gordon Brown has no mandate as Prime Minister, surely Spink has no mandate as a UKIP MP? After all, the people of his constituency voted for a Conservative to represent them. Only 7% of the Castle Point electors wanted a UKIP MP, yet now they’ve all got one. If he’s as ‘deeply principled’ as Farage says he is, shouldn’t he stand again in a by-election? Otherwise he has – in your phrase – no mandate.
