I’ve had a great St Georges Day. I took the day off work – as I do every year – and had a busy day.
This morning I went and got my hair cut and saw lots of English flags on cars and houses and people wearing Cross of St George lapel badges.
I went to the florists and bought a fresh red rose for my wife and my daughter and then we went to Blists Hill museum for a couple of hours and had fresh Victorian-style fish and chips cooked in beef fat. God, they were fantastic.
Took #4 to nursery where they had Happy St Georges Day posters up and were colouring in pictures of George and the Dragon and English flags. The eldest 3 didn’t do anything about St Georges Day despite doing St Paddy’s Day, St David’s Day, Holocaust Memorial Day and Chinese New Year which was disappointing but they’ll be getting a Section 65 Race Relations Act questionnaire to explain why.
Tonight I’m going to a St Georges Day meal organised by Telford & Wrekin UKIP with a brass band and a comedian.
Oh yes, and the Shropshire Star will be running my Red Audi L311 XPV, you’re a wanker story as a follow up to a local lad getting a driving ban after videoing himself driving dangerously and posting it on YouTube.

Hi Wonko, I had a pleasant St George’s day too.
Maidstone council and get this, the North West Kent Racial Equality Council organised a school’s parade and flag raising ceremony in the town. It was a joy to watch children from five local primary schools taking part. The real irony of the day is the man who seems to have been the driving force for the parade and who also made a short speech, is a man of Asian appearance. (i guess he worked for the NWK racial equality council) Don’t misunderstand me, i have no problem with that, just as i have no problem with the kids being a diverse mix as is typical in England these days. I don’t believe in multiculturism, i believe the culture of the host nation must always come first, and that is what i saw yesterday. The guy said this was the first St George’s day celebration in Maidstone, but wanted it to grow every year and will be working toward that goal.
As i said, how supremely ironic it’s taken an Asian man and the Racial Equality Council to kickstart this celebration. But what better way to disprove the claims of racism so often attached to St George’s day.
Incidentally there are two more related days of celebration over the forthcoming weekend too.

Glad to hear that St George’s Day is getting some recognition at last.
It was interesting to me to speak to some young English backpackers who said that they really enjoyed celebrating the day and said that when they get back to England they will be seriously considering joining a Morris side as they realised that it was all part of their culture and something to be proud of. So there you go, our efforts are not in vain.
I will be checking out the youtube site mentioned and I thought that you may be interested in seeing what we get up to here. We are the City of Auckland Morris Dancers, we actually have the right to wear the old City crest, granted by a former patron who was mayor of the city….this was about 30 years ago.
On MayDay morning we dance up the sun on top of Mt Eden in the centre of Auckland. Just one more little gesture even if the weather is a bit unsuitable in this part of the world.
