Liebour holds onto Glasgow East

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Liebour has managed to hold on to the Glasgow North East seat vacated by the disgraced ex-Speaker, Micheal Martin (now Lord Martin but, like Peter Mandelson, entirely undeserving of the honorific), albeit with a reduced majority.

Liebour won with 12,231 votes, followed by the SNP with 4,120.  The Tories just managed to keep their deposit with 1,075 votes (5.22%) closely followed by the BNP with 1,013 votes (4.92%) who were a few votes short of keeping their deposit.  The Lib Dims came in sixth with 474% of the vote, behind the Solidarity Party who got 794 votes.

One commentator yesterday said that if Liebour put a donkey up for election it would win and they weren’t wrong but elections are won and lost in England and Liebour is about as relevant as the Monster Raving Loony Party south of the border.

The BBC are trumpeting it as a SNP defeat, despite the fact it’s a Labour hold. Oddly enough the BBC are being very coy on who came fourth, not deigning to mention them at all save in the results on the top of their page.

I still say you can’t write Labour off just yet. I have fought that Party in practically every election since 1992 and I can tell you that they are still a force to be reckoned with. The trade unions know how to mobilise support when they put their collective mind to it.

Everyone I have spoken to over the past few days has expressed sympathy for Gordon Brown and his treatment at the hands of The Sun. I am no friend of The Sun newspaper myself or of Gordon Brown for that matter, but to suggest that Gordon Brown was in some way disrespectful in his hand-written expression of condolence to Mrs Janes was utterly ludicrous.

In any case, if Labour do lose the next election, does anyone seriously believe that the Tories will fare any better? They are shitting it over Afghanistan and over a whole host of other matters. I was a member of that party for over 8 years and I can assure you that I was somewhat uneasy about them then – even more so now as we approach polling day.

I despise Gordon Brown and Labour for the thirteen years of damage they have wreaked upon England. I have no faith that the Conservatives will fare any better. It’s just the same old two party crap.
But as an English Nationalist who wishes to see England treated fairly, democratically and equally, the best possible election result next year (recognising the ED’s are unlikely to sweep the board)is a Tory win in England and nationalist wins in Scotland and Wales. This will hasten the arrival of English Nationalist successs.

Daggs, I agree with the sentiment but not the conclusion. The EDP need to get rid of the idiot that seems to be running the party (not Robin) before they’ll be taken seriously. The Tories won’t give us an English Parliament, they’re no long the party of England just like they’re no longer the party of eurosceptics. The European Empire is the main barrier to an English Parliament because they say England has to ruled by 9 regional governments. If we don’t get out of the European Empire there will be no England in the next few years. The Tories won’t help, that’s why we need a UKIP government.

Unfortunately Wonko, the chances of UKIP winning a majority are not significantly better than that of the ED’s!
If my scenario were to happen, we won’t need the Tories to GIVE us an English P. We’ll get it by default.
Nonetheless i want out of the EU.

and labour get the seat because they get less than 20% of the electorate voting for them
