Is it any wonder people are turning to the EDL?

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Is it any wonder English people of all colours and religions are supporting the English Defence League?

Over 4,000 people gathered at an English Defence League demonstration in Dudley to protest against the planned £18m muslim mosque which over 20,000 locals previously objected to in a petition.  The protesters were herded into a large fenced-off car park surrounded by police whilst local fascists and muslims threw bottles and bricks over the fence.  The police stood and watched them do it right up until the EDL protesters pushed over the fences at which point the police ran away.

I’ve read on another website that an EDL marshal was stabbed and another had a glass bottle put in his neck.  The EDL website reports that a marshal was hit by a bottle, which would appear to give some legitimacy to the story.

I’m still not interested in ethnic nationalism or race politics and I’m not about to march with the EDL but it pisses me off that English people exercising their constitutional right to free assembly are treated this way and put in danger by the police while violent left wing fascists and muslim extremists are allowed to roam the streets, incite violence and murder and attack people who oppose them.  I’m half tempted, next time they’re in the area, to go along to one of these protests with a camera and see what happens first hand.

And just in case you’re wondering, there were 9 arrests at the protest: 3 EDL supporters (out of 4,000) and 6 UAF fascists.  The UAF arrests were for possession of offensive weapons and drugs.

I’m sympathising more and more with the EDL myself, every demo so far it’s been the UAF and other extremists causing trouble and the EDL and associated others corralled, arrested, prevented from free assembly as well as vilified in the press. If you’d looked up the initial reports you’d have thought it was the EDL who’d rioted, not been provoked.

The Birmingham Mail have reported on the protest and said the two sides kept away from each other and that there were a few “flashpoints” but failed to mention that the EDL protesters were corralled into what was effectively a large cage whilst the police allowed nutters to come and throw stuff at them. Takes the piss.

I suspect we’re of a similar view – I don’t like their race politics but I am offended by the way they are treated and portrayed as troublemakers when it’s the UAF and muslims (but mainly the UAF) that cause mayhem. There were 3 arrests from 4,000 EDL protesters and 6 arrests from 1,500 UAF/muslim protesters.

Unite against fascism is a somewhat ironic name is it not?

they may have only 1 policy but it is one that resonates with the population, not the mealy mouthed blando politics of the rest

I remember you not being interested in party politics – and now you’re in UKIP. I remember you not being interested in the independance of England – and now you are advocating it. I give you two years to become interested in ethnic nationalism and race politics. I’ll be welcome. 🙂

Maximus, I don’t advocate independence, I’m agnostic towards the union. I won’t be interested in ethnic nationalism and race politics, believe me. 😉
