Now I can guess what the excuse will be – St George’s Day has been postponed until the 2nd of May by the church because it clashes with Easter and Easter is more important in the religious calendar than a saint’s day – but it’s not good enough.

It doesn’t matter whether there is congestion in the church’s calendar, St George’s Day left its religious roots behind a long time ago and is a national day for our country. I don’t care what the Pope or the Archbishop of Canterbury says, England’s St George’s Day is on the 23rd of April every year.

So, to Google and Asda (who have decked out their Telford stores in British flags) and all the other shops around England that have ignored St George and stocked up on the butcher’s apron, I have only one thing to say: how dare you insult my country, fuck you.

So, how’s your St Georges weekend been so far? Ours has been busy (not to mention expensive) and it’s not over yet!

Yesterday Mrs Sane and I went to my sisters’ pub for a 3 course St Georges Day lunch. The garlic mushrooms with tomato and goats cheese probably weren’t very English (although garlic was cultivated in England as early as the 16th century) but the venison, mushroom and bacon pudding main course is pretty English (and so amazingly gorgeous they said it’ll probably stay on the menu). And what can be more English than apple crumble and custard?

Today we went to Telford Town Park where Telford & Wrekin Council had organised a St Georges Day celebration for the first time. There was a falconry display, a one-man band, plays, morris dancers, a fantastic and enthusiastic storyteller, crafting, hog roast, ice creams, flag making, stilt walker and some other stuff that I can’t think of. And, of course, then town park itself which occupied the kids for a good hour or so. We even met BBC Radio Shropshire presenter and tweeter Johnty O’Donty in person at last.

Tomorrow, #2 son will be at the Albrighton St Georges Day parade with 1st Brookside Scouts and while he’s there the rest of us will be at Blists Hill partaking in their annual St Georges Day festivities.

CEP: What are you doing for St Georges Day?

St Georges Day 2010 is almost upon us (it’s Friday, in case you didn’t know) and we’re interested in what you’re planning to do to mark the day.

It was St Georges Day that first led me to discover the Campaign for an English Parliament all those years ago. I was looking for St Georges Day events in and around Telford but there weren’t any. The CEP explained why, quite bluntly – the Brits don’t like England. It sparked my interest and lead to me joining the CEP, becoming an avowed English nationalist, joining the CEP and eventually being voted onto the National Council.

A lot’s changed in that time and one of those things is that Telford & Wrekin Council are finally, after years of nagging, marking St Georges Day. They’re doing it on Saturday rather than St Georges Day but at least it means more people can go. That’s where I’ll be on Saturday with my family.

I have the day booked off work on Friday as I do every year (my unofficial St Georges Day public holiday) and I’m taking my wife to my sister’s pub for a St Georges Day lunch (they’re doing traditional English food and beers all week for St Georges Day). On Sunday we’re planning to visit Blists Hill who are doing special St Georges Day events all weekend, starting Friday.

But enough about me! What are you doing for St Georges Day? If you haven’t got anything planned, check out the St George Holiday website and if you know of any events that they don’t know about, let them know.

I’ve had a great St Georges Day. I took the day off work – as I do every year – and had a busy day.

This morning I went and got my hair cut and saw lots of English flags on cars and houses and people wearing Cross of St George lapel badges.

I went to the florists and bought a fresh red rose for my wife and my daughter and then we went to Blists Hill museum for a couple of hours and had fresh Victorian-style fish and chips cooked in beef fat. God, they were fantastic.

Took #4 to nursery where they had Happy St Georges Day posters up and were colouring in pictures of George and the Dragon and English flags. The eldest 3 didn’t do anything about St Georges Day despite doing St Paddy’s Day, St David’s Day, Holocaust Memorial Day and Chinese New Year which was disappointing but they’ll be getting a Section 65 Race Relations Act questionnaire to explain why.

Tonight I’m going to a St Georges Day meal organised by Telford & Wrekin UKIP with a brass band and a comedian.

Oh yes, and the Shropshire Star will be running my Red Audi L311 XPV, you’re a wanker story as a follow up to a local lad getting a driving ban after videoing himself driving dangerously and posting it on YouTube.
An eventful and productive St Georges Day.

Surely events like Holocaust Memorial Day and Eid encourage “tribalism” and there’s certainly evidence that many muslim communities all over the country have been infiltrated by extremists.

Telford & Wrekin have confirmed that they will not be marking St Georges Day again this year.

I spoke to them today to find out what they were planning after hearing a couple of councillors at the recent Telford & Wrekin Question Time event saying how pleased they were to be marking Chinese New Year and Holocaust Day assuming, somewhat naïvely, that they would be extending the same courtesy to the 95 or so percent of the population of the borough that’s English.

But no, there will be no borough-wide events. The only event they know of is Hadley Parish Council’s annual St Georges Day dinner which will be attended by the mayor. Which isn’t really good enough is it?

I was told that because Telford is a multi-national town they would have to celebrate every patron saint to keep everybody happy but as I pointed out, there are only four patron saints in the UK and as we’re in England there’s only one that matters. I also pointed out that regardless of whether they are white, black or asian, most people living in Telford will consider themselves English.

I’ve asked for my comments to be passed on to the Leader, Andrew Eade, but I may pre-empt it with a phone call this evening. It’s a little disappointing after Andrew got off to such a good start by taking down the EU flag and replacing it with the Cross of St George when he took over as leader last year.

The Monty Python’s Spamalot the Musical is attempting to break the world record for the largest coconut orchestra in the world.

Staff at Lion Insulation in Kent have been given the day off work for St Georges Day by their patriotic boss.

Google have, yet again, failed to change their logo to the St Georges Day logo they used a couple of years ago.

The BBC still haven’t changed the comment on their poll page.

I’ve been to my local Somerfields, the library and my kids school and there’s nothing – not so much as an English flag in sight.

Absolutely no effort from Somerfields or the council …

“It is time that St George was reclaimed from the dragon, from past associations with racism and the far right, and from images of arrogant flag-waving”

The racism accusation is probably two-fold (it doesn’t say). Firstly, the BRITISH National Party often fly the flag of St George. The BNP are racist, therefore anyone who has an English flag is – by association – also a racist with a shaved head and a combat jacket. There aren’t any calls to remove the Union Flag – part of their logo – from Buckingham Palace but lefties aren’t exactly noted for their logic skills. Secondly, St George is associated with the Crusades. Two thousand years ago, muslim invaders occupied the Holy Land putting non-muslims to death and generally making a nuisance of themelves. Christian Crusaders from across Europe went to the Holy Land to fight the invaders and reclaim the Holy Land. This is, of course, racist and deeply offensive to muslims who are still suffering from the Crusades 2,000 years on. Gosh, I’m so ashamed to be white and English.

The report suggests that St Georges Day should be a:

“day of dissent” – celebrating “the pro- democracy Putney Debates, the equality-seeking Levellers, the anti-slavery abolitionists, the women’s suffrage movement, conscientious objectors and peacemakers, anti-racism campaigners, human rights activists and those struggling against debt and poverty”

Day of dissent? Sounds good to me. Putney Debates? Let me just check Wikipedia … oh right, some constitutional debates from when Oliver Cromwell overthrew the monarchy and established a fundamentalist Christian dictatorship in England. Actually, I suppose that’s quite relevant to modern-day England. Levellers? Weren’t they a band in the 70s? I think perhaps they’re referring to the Levellers who were also involved in Cromwell’s civil war. Are the Church planning another revolution perhaps? Anti-slavery, womens suffrage, conscientious objectors, peacemakers, anti-racism, human rights and global poverty? What has that got to do with being English?

Richard Littlejohn has written an excellent piece on this – take a look.

Personally, I will be celebrating St Georges Day with a day off work, a BBQ and a pint of Bombadier with a like-minded colleague. Most of the pubs in Telford have English flags out all year round but some of them have got in English beers and are doing other things on Monday. The council haven’t organised anything of course, they’re too busy finding new regional projects to sign up to so they can speed up the abolition of England.

Britains most senior muslim police officer (someone actually has a league table?), Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, has submitted plans to the Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, to make flag burning a crime.

This is to help the police deal with violent protests apparently. I thought waving burning rags in a crowd of people was something the police could already arrest you over – reckless endangerment or something like that.

Also included in the plan is a proposal to make it illegal to cover your face during a protest so you can’t avoid police scrutiny. Muslim women will be exempt of course and will be able to wear a veil over their face whilst inciting murder of English people on the streets of London.

Ghaffur got in a spot of bother a couple of months ago when he said that the new anti-terror laws were criminalising muslim communities. Almost right, it criminalises muslim terrorists. Unless he’s suggesting that all muslims are terrorists of course. I don’t think they are but he is a policeman and a muslim so he’d have a better idea than me.

So, not only will I be banned from burning a flag if I choose to do so but if I were to go on a protest march I wouldn’t be allowed to cover my face to remain anonymous but a muslim woman (or disguised male suicide bomber) will be allowed to wear a veil or a burkha because of her (or his) religion.

Ok, I’m starting a new religion. It’s called Wonkism and Wonkites (followers of Wonkism) worship St George. It is against my newly-acquired religion to show my face when I’m protesting and my religion requires me to slap anyone who denies me my religious rights in the face with a rotting kipper. It is also against my religion to pay taxes and use metric measurements.

Let’s pray:

Our patron, who art in England, St George be thy name, thy kingdom come, England will become, devolved as it is in Scotland.
Give us this day a hospital bed, and forgive those who discriminate against us.
Break us not into regions, but deliver us from Labour.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
England.

Anyone else want to join?

Patricia Hewitt and John Reid have suggested that England should have a national Shakespeare day just like North Britain‘s Burns Night.

They’ve suggested April 23rd as a suitable date which, coincidently, is the date of St Georges Day.

So, if the British government are happy to have April 23rd as a special occassion to celebrate Shakespeare then why can’t it be a special occassion for St George? Simple really. St George and the St George’s Cross are both symbols that bind the English together and as far as the Scottish Raj are concerned, England is a group of 9 regions.

This is cultural genocide.
