North Korea

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

I suppose it was inevitible that I couldn’t ignore North Korea forever.  To be honest, I thought it was just a flash in the pan and everyone would get bored of what is essentially a non-issue but no, it’s got to be dragged through the media feeding frenzy for a bit first.

North Korea has tested a nuclear weapon.  They said they would some time ago and the UN imposed sanctions as a result.  Despite the sanctions they’ve still tested a nuclear weapon so they obviously don’t work.  Traitor Blair’s response to the test?  He’s going to petition the UN to impose more sanctions.  You couldn’t make it up. :s

So what next?  Perhaps the sanctions will do so much harm that North Korea decides to invade South Korea again for food, money and resources.  What will we do then?  They’ve got nuclear weapons.

North Korea isn’t interested in the rest of the world, they’re an inward looking state that have deliberately cut themselves off from the outside world.  The people don’t need “saving”, just leave them to it.  If they decide they want to get democracy and capitalism let them sort it out themselves, we don’t need a christian democrat crusade in North Korea.

The Americans this morning said that they were going to make North Korea pay for their actions.  Big words for a country that hasn’t been on the winning side of a war since 1945 and whose forces are severely overstretched in Afghanistan and Iraq already.

Let’s just get this straight – the Americans don’t have any spare troops, we don’t have any spare troops, the North Koreans have got lots and their ally, China, has the worlds largest standing army.

Wonko, I quite agree. This new world order bullshit is seriously depressing. What the bloody hell has their testing nukes got to do with us or anyone else for that matter. They’ve got nukes, so have we, so what.
If the good ol’ US of A wants to police the world, let them.
I seem to remember them calling the Taliban “freedom fighters” when they were fighting the Ruskies, they only have interests, thats what John Foster Dulles once remarked.
This is not an anti American letter, it is an anti new world order, anti world police sentiment.
For me, the world can not, nor will be policed.
I believe the Americans are getting paranoid that their position as Superpower on the block is being usurped by the Russians and the Chinese. But there really isn’t much they can do about it.

I don’t think they’re worried about the Russians but the Chinese certainly. China has the worlds fastest growing economy and the worlds largest standing army and they know that if they invade someone we’re not going to stand against them.

Wonko you hit the nail on the head; “The people don’t need “saving”” further more, they don’t deserve to be saved. It’s also true about Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere else where we’ve sent our troops recently.

What does need saving imo are the lives of English (and British) troops and the money HMG is wasting out there.

I agree China is a worry, the only ray of light is that if they do anything naughty the rest of the world will stop buying stuff made in China – which will fuck them up bigtime and cause some major internal unrest.

Which would be by me as long as we don’t get nuked in the process.
