Election result

! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.

Well, what an interesting night (or to be more accurate, morning).  Labour have won back control of Telford & Wrekin Council after just one stint in opposition in the history of the town by taking control of 33 out of 54 seats.

No UKIP candidates got elected to the borough council but where UKIP candidates have stood before, they increased their vote.  I tripled my vote from last time and encouragingly most of the votes I got were for me alone, not me and another candidate (I was the only UKIP candidate and there were two vacancies).

The results of my election are:

Arnold England (Lab): 756
Jackie Loveridge (Lab): 746
Nicola Anderson (Con): 572
John Dixon (Con): 524
Stuart Parr (UKIP): 298

So I came last but I don’t really care.  Arnold and Jackie will do a good job – better than John Dixon who has been useless for the last 4 years and better than Nicola Anderson who lied her way through the very brief Conservative election campaign.  Of course of I would have preferred to have won or at least to have beaten the two lying Conservative candidates but that’s life.  I tripled my vote, I was just two votes short of 300 and I gave the others a run for their money.  I’m happy with what I achieved.

I think I’m allowed to announce now that I was elected unopposed to Stirchley & Brookside Parish Council so it wasn’t a complete loss!

I enjoyed this election and the count was very interesting.  Telford & Wrekin Council did an excellent job of running the election as they always do.

Sorry Stuart – but if we have to have liars in office, I would prefer they were Tory liars than Labour liars.

I will never forgive the Labour Louts for what they have done to my country.

Anyway congrats on your council election.

I’d rather a decent candidate won. For me, there is no difference between the Tories and Labour – they are both anti-English, europhile traitor parties. The Labour candidates here were better than the Tory candidates. I would prefer I had won of course but I didn’t so I am happier with the two Labour candidates who I know are decent people than the two Tory candidates who are liars.

Looks like a “UKIP effect” if you add your total to one of the Lip-servitive candidates. Next time bro, you’ll get the prize.

Adam, the votes that were cast for me and for another candidate were pretty much evenly split – I didn’t deprive one or the other from victory because I attracted votes pretty evenly from both.

Well done on the result and a good campaign – your posters were everywhere this time. The Tories were hardly visible in the ward at all. I also enjoyed the count and it was nice to see you and also meet some of your colleagues.

George, it was good to see you too. It’s been a while since I’ve seen you and John. Good news on John’s daughter as well – youngest councillor in the country.

It is excellent news about John’s daughter being elected to Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council. As a result of the Parish & Borough elections she now has a reasonable profile within the ward and will be able to build up support. The same is true of you on Brookside. In the case of Brookside, the Tory vote held up reasonably well – it was the slumbering Labour vote that actually turned out in large numbers this time. In 2007 they either voted Tawpa or stayed at home. My assesment is that you did not deprive the Tories of seats at Brookside. My own involvement at Hadley & Leegomery is, of course, another story entirely…
